Artist's Biography
Connie Rhoades, Professor of Clarinet at Eastern Kentucky University, has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States. As a soloist, she has performed at the International ClarinetFest, the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, the Michigan State Contemporary Clarinet Symposium, and numerous other clarinet symposiums. She has also been a featured solo artist at the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts.

As a chamber musician, she serves as principal clarinetist of the Paragon Music Theatre Orchestra, performs with the Madison Winds - the EKU faculty woodwind quintet in residence, and the Commonwealth Clarinet Quartet, who routinely commissions and gives premiere performances of new music for clarinet quartet. The Commonwealth Clarinet Quartet recently performed at the College Music Society Great Lakes Regional Conference and has been invited to perform at the NACWPI Conference in 2011.

Dr. Rhoades has been a member of the Oklahoma Sinfonia/Tulsa Pops Orchestra, with which she has appeared as a soloist, and the Tulsa Ballet Theater Orchestra. She has also performed with the Oklahoma City Symphony, and the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra.

As the Professor of Clarinet at Eastern Kentucky University, Dr. Rhoades not only teaches clarinet, but also conducts the EKU Clarinet Choir, which has performed at the International ClarinetFest, the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, and at numerous venues throughout Kentucky. In addition, she is the founder of the EKU Clarinet Festival, teaches at the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp, serves as the International Clarinet Association Kentucky State Chair, and is a Conn-Selmer Artist representing the Selmer Privilege clarinets and bass clarinet.

Dr. Rhoades was raised in Covington, Ohio where she began studying the clarinet with her father, William Rhoades, followed by lessons with James Jeffryes. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Oral Roberts University, her Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma. Her teachers include Gene Eland, David Etheridge, and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr.
