Affiliation: Licensed Music Teacher/Elementary Band Director
Bass Clarinetist
Private Clarinet/Bass Clarinet Instructor in Metro Atlanta area.
Artist's Biography I live outside Atlanta with my wife, 3 children, and 3 cats. Yep, 8 of us in one house! My day job is teaching beginning elementary band students...the best thing I've done for my ear!
I've been playing Leblanc Basses since 1994 (I even got to play at the Olympics)
I use a ~1959 Leblanc 400 series Bass and a 1997 Leblanc 430 series Bass. I also use a Plastic Bundy/Selmer Bass for all my outdoor work with the marching band. What great instruments!
They've carried me through H.S., college, and personal work.
I teach private lessons here in Atlanta. I'm open to Elementary, Middle, High School, College amateurs and Adult amateurs. Feel free to e-mail for information.
Artist's Influences Harry Sparnaay - what a wonderfully nice person. The first time I heard a recording of him I knew "I want to do this!"
Bob Chesebro - my teacher at Furman...everything I know about interpretting music and turning a phrase I learned from Bob.
Contrary to popular belief, I don't always tell my students to blow their brains out (although that is often called for) I typically prefer a finesse style, something that requires a "touch", a light hand, almost "slight of hand" in deceiving the ear into believing I'm playing a smaller instrument; an influence that was created and nurtured through listening to fine string players...Casals, Heifetz, Menuhin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo Yo Ma, Leonard Rose, Jacqueline du Pre', etc.
My approach to the instrument is eclectic, just like the instrument itself.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, my ears are always open. I love new sounds and new ideas. Appearances / Venues

No albums yet, but my mission statement (hopefully) will suffice. The Bass Clarinet is the easiest woodwind to learn AND the most versatile. It should be held to a standard higher than the high woodwinds and with your help we can spread the word. If you want your kids to learn how to take THEMSELVES to the next level without needing your constant watchful eye I'm right here, you know where to find me!
